Tenuta di Castellaro was born in 2005 in Lipari, the biggest of the seven Aeolian islands. It represents the pure expression of that volcanic territory with all of its adversities that greeted this important agronomic and enological project and transformed it into a unique winery.
Two indigenous varieties Malvasia delle Lipari and Corinto Nero were brought here by the ancient Greek population during the Hellenic colonization. They were repropagated through a precise massale selection and today they are the main characters of the wines of Tenuta di Castellaro, along with Carricante, Nero d’Avola, Moscato Bianco, Alicante, and Pinot Nero.
The ancient traditions of viticulture of this territory were enhanced by continuous research of excellence with help of the most cutting-edge technologies.
The biggest bioenergetic winery of the Aeolian archipelago was born from the old palmento, 2500 square meters of total integration with the surrounding ambient.
The underground barrel room was made in the same vernacular style of Chiostro Romano (Roman cloister), the historical symbol of Lipari town.
It is naturally illuminated by sunlight captured through solar chimneys and naturally conditioned by a wind tower.
The elegancy of alberello growing system in the vineyard further enhances the native flora and creates a magical landscape.
